Butoh

with Aliki Germanou

Butoh – Contemporary Japanese Dance Theater

In Butoh, the performer is seen as a "vessel of time", carrying all lived experi- ences from birth to the present moment. Intuition and spirituality play a central role.

The dancer listens to and follows their internal rhythm and time, continuously weaving something new—a new space and time. Butoh is deeply rooted in improvisation, guided by the dancer’s "inner landscapes."

Stillness in Nature is just as significant as movement. In stillness, there is an anticipation of what is yet to come. Through slow movement or external still- ness, the dancer processes memories and experiences internally.

Butoh allows the body to transform into raw artistic material, bridging move- ment training and creative self-expression.

No prior experience in the performing arts is required. Butoh is open to all ages, offering each participant the freedom to create a deeply personal and unique dance. This artistic openness makes Butoh both accessible and pro- foundly introspective.
